Auditório B/Auditorium B

The diversity of programmatic activities predicted on the Plan to rehabilitate the Robinson Factory, together with the diversity of spatial characterization of the existing buildings, was crucial to the prior distribution of the different functions. One defined the installation of two auditoriums that should have different characteristics, be complementary, of shared uses, also associated to the Performing Arts Center to be created.

Thus, Auditorium B came to occupy part of an autonomous body, corresponding to the Granary of White Particleboard, in coexistence with the ICT-VR; it is almost exclusively reserved for musical activities and representation. To the west is Auditorium A.

In this adaptation to an existing building there was also a concern to maintain the configuration of the original arched roof, and sought to exploit its corner position to introduce both necessary entrances at the different auditorium levels, making it possible a lateral entrance, through the same access to the Auditorium A, at the outside Plaza and Foyer.

The specificity of this existing space allows its use only for about 150 people.

ICT-VR _ International Centre for Virtual Reality 

The Virtual Reality Center will be the first of its kind to be held in Portugal and the fact that we have adapted an existing building to such singular function imposed the necessity of conducting a preliminary inquiry about the nature of activities to be undertaken.

In terms of its program it provides four core areas - research laboratories for 2D/3D and Motion Picture articulated by a longitudinal distribution, Lobby Lounge and Presentation / Showroom enabling a frank relation with the public. One drew a corridor for transversal circulation that ensures access and autonomy of all laboratories as well as the Showroom; it works formally as a kind of cabinet comprising aluminum panels both fixed and open, with minimum height, in order to emphasize, by contrast, the reading of the existing rounded ceilings and the proportion of the large rooms with high ceiling.

The atrium allows the possibility of direct connection to both the street outside and the courtyard. The ICT-VR has its equipment available to companies wishing to make use of Virtual Reality to enhance their business and for this reason it has its administrative area with a direct entrance from the street.
